Questions about paint protection film
It absorbs and disperses the impact from stones, sand and road debris, so most chips that would have marked your paint are stopped at the film instead. It is not indestructible — a hard enough strike can still leave a mark — but for the highway miles and gravel most drivers see, it makes a real difference. That is exactly what it is built for.
Full-front covers the panels that take the most punishment — bumper, hood, fenders, mirrors and headlights — and is the best value for most drivers. A track pack (or partial) adds coverage to spots like rocker panels and rear arches for people who see more gravel or track time. Full-body wraps every painted panel for complete protection. We will walk the car with you and recommend based on how and where you drive.
It depends on the vehicle, how much of it you want covered, and the film and finish you choose — a full-front on a coupe is a very different job than a full-body on a truck. Rather than guess, we would rather see the car and give you a firm, free quote. There is no charge to come in and talk it through.
With normal care, quality XPEL film generally lasts around ten years, and it is backed by a ten-year manufacturer warranty against things like yellowing, cracking, bubbling and peeling. As an XPEL authorized installer we register every job, so that coverage is there if you ever need it. It does not cover collision damage, but for everyday wear it holds up well.
Quality XPEL film is stabilized against UV, so it resists the yellowing and haze that cheap film is known for, and that is backed by the warranty. This is one of the biggest differences between doing it right and cutting corners on the film itself.
The top layer is a flexible urethane, so light swirls and fine scratches disappear as it warms up — a hot day, the sun, or warm water from the hose is usually enough. Deeper cuts that go through the film will not heal, but the day-to-day marks from washing and brushing past it will. It is one of the nicer things about a good clear film.
Wash it just like the rest of your car once it has cured — hand washing is kindest to the edges. You can wax it, though many customers prefer a ceramic coating on top for slickness. The one thing to avoid is cutting or polishing it with an abrasive compound, since that works against the self-healing layer; if the film ever needs attention, bring it back to us.
Yes — headlights, mirrors, door edges and other painted or smooth surfaces all take film nicely, and headlight coverage is a popular add-on since lenses chip and cloud over time. Your windshield is a different product; we offer a separate Windshield Protection Film for that, starting around $250. We can bundle whatever makes sense for your car into one quote.
We can, but we usually would not without dealing with it first — the film is optically clear, so anything underneath still shows through, and rough spots can affect how well it sticks. Where it makes sense we will correct or clean up the paint before wrapping, so you are protecting a good surface rather than sealing in a flaw. We will tell you honestly what the paint needs when we see it.
Quality film is made to be removed, and when a pro takes it off, the factory paint underneath comes out protected and intact — often a nice surprise at trade-in time. Because it keeps the original finish looking newer, if anything it tends to help resale rather than hurt it. Older or neglected film can take more patience to remove, but that is our job to sort out, not yours.
Yes. Alongside the standard gloss we can do a satin finish that turns a glossy car a clean, even matte while still protecting it — it is a popular look, and because it is film and not paint, it is reversible. If you are torn between the two, we can show you both in person.
Many customers do. A ceramic coating over the film adds slickness and makes it easier to keep clean, so bugs, water spots and grime let go more easily. It is optional, and XPEL's own coating will not affect the film warranty — we are happy to do both in one visit.
A full-front is usually about a day; a full-body can run a few days, because every panel is washed, decontaminated, and then the film is cut to precise patterns and wrapped and tucked by hand. We do not rush it out the door — clean, wrapped edges and a proper bond are what make it last. We will give you a realistic timeline when we quote the job.
Give it a couple of days before the first wash, and try to keep it out of the pressure washer's path early on so the edges seal down properly. You might notice a little haze or a few small water pockets under fresh film — that is normal and clears on its own as it cures over the next week or two. After that, treat it like your paint.
In gloss, the film is optically clear — most people cannot tell it is there, beyond a slightly deeper, wetter shine. If you want a different look you can choose the satin finish on purpose, but standard film is meant to disappear and just let your colour show. Wrapped properly, the edges sit tight and stay out of sight.
